Samsung have announced at CES ( A huge consumer electronics fair in America) two new eReaders that will join the two they already make, thus confirming the growing interest in eReaders all over the world.
So far there isn't much information out there about the two new kids on the block, but it seems that they will both support the ePub and PDF formats, which is good news for us all, as this enables us to buy books from any supplier out there.
One of these new eReaders will have a keyboard, and the ability to make notations with a stylus (as with the Kindle and a number of other eReaders) and also have in-built WiFi support too, thus avoiding the need to have a computer to hunt down books online. Not as convenient as the 3G system that Amazon have set up for their Kindles, but still extremely convenient I feel.
The inclusion of a stylus and keyboard confirms the trend in eReaders towards becoming steadily more capable of multiple uses, not simply to be used as a different form of book, much as with mobile phones.... before long they will be able to make us our morning coffee as well.
Both of these new eReaders will be released onto the market within the next few months, starting in Korea (reasonably enough, they are a Korean company after all), then the US, closely followed by Europe and the rest of the world.
As yet no price has been confirmed, but Samsung indicate that the cheaper one will be in the area of about 400 US Dollars, and the more complex one will be 700 US Dollars!!!! Not the cheapest eReaders in the world thus.
As soon as more information becomes available about these two eReaders I shall review them here, so consider this as simply a heads up on coming goodies for us to enjoy.
